"Look Up!" Joe would say after playing a few notes of the Bach Flute Sonata we'd always warm up with before starting the lesson. Joe Temperley, my private teacher at the Juilliard School, would encourage me to keep my eyes open...look up, open my nose and throat when playing so I could try to "sing" through the saxophone. The room immediately warmed up when Joe entered the room. He'd sing out loud. He'd play one note with the most beautiful tone you would ever hear. I miss that sound and I miss him dearly. This EP is a dream come true and I'm so excited to share the music with you, available on iTunes today!
It seemed appropriate to name my first EP, Look Up! in tribute to Joe, but also as a thank you to everyone (family, friends, musicians, teachers) for their love and support all these years, especially to my mother, father and brothers who's unconditional love and support has never wavered. My deepest gratitude to the amazing band; Alex Wintz on guitar, Glenn Zaleski on piano, Rick Rosato on bass, Jimmy Macbride on drums, and special guest Robert Edwards on trombone. I am so grateful for their friendship and for their incredible talents. Thanks to Michael Perez-Cisneros at Big Orange Sheep for beautifully recording the afternoon. Thanks to Beth Kessler for her masterful and artistic videos that captured a magical day in February. Nick Finzer and Outside in Music have been with me from day one encouraging me to get this music out to you. I am forever grateful to Nick for helping me realize a lifelong dream of mine. To Diana, my constant source of inspiration, my light, my teacher, my love. She made me believe in myself and always encouraged me to live the life I always wanted.
I hope you take a few moments to Look Up and enjoy your day while listening to my EP. You can also check out Outside in Music's Youtube page with several videos from the recording session and other great content!
Let me know what you think of the EP and have a wonderful day!
